Little Starfish Playgroup

Playgroups provide crucial support for families with small children. Not only is it wonderful place for your child to have social interactions, but it also allows parents and caters a place to meet up and develop supportive relationships. Living Water Uniting has been running playgroups continuously at the Broadwater Road Centre for 34 years and has recently started at our Carina Heights Centre.

If you are interested in coming along or volunteering, talk to Pastor Sandra, contact our office or check out our Facebook page here

Little Starfish Playgroup is run from the Starfish room at our Broadwater Road Centre. This playgroup is for children aged 0 to 5 years (pre-schoolers). The Little Starfish Playgroup is led by Pastor Sandra and her team of volunteers. Our aim is to provide a supportive environment for parents and carers on Tuesday mornings from 9.00am to 11.15am at our Mansfield Centre and 9.30am-11.30am on Thursday at Carina Heights.

The children’s activities are provided for at a weekly cost $5 per family and, YES! We take electronic payments.

Please contact Church Office to check for place availability.

We also provide a “holiday playgroup” during school holidays, where parents can also bring older siblings for the morning activities as well. Talk to Pastor Sandra about when the next one is on!

The Starfish story

Our Playgroups meet in the Starfish Room, which open into outside play areas and is linked to a wonderful playground. The Starfish Room was named in honour of Rev. Louise Edwards, one of our previous ministry leaders, who passed away several years ago. Louise was very fond of the Starfish story, adapted from the original work called “The Storm thrower” by Loren Eiseley. It’s a story about making a difference and it goes like this…

…One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy hurriedly picking up and gently throwing things into the ocean. Approaching the boy he asked, “Young man, what are you doing?”

The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up, and the tide is out and if I don’t throw them back, they’ll die”. The man laughed to himself and said, “Don’t you realise that there are miles and miles of beach hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the surf. The smiling he said, “I made a difference to that one.” Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the problems and needs of those around us, but rather than do nothing, we chose to make a difference – one by one.

We hope that our little playgroup will make a difference to you too!
